Strategy raised $776 million this week through its STRC instrument sales, positioning the company to purchase over 11,000 Bitcoin at current prices around $70,625. The corporate software firm has transformed into crypto's most aggressive institutional buyer, adding 17,994 BTC worth $1.28 billion just last week.
Bitcoin gained more than 7% over the past week while the S&P 500 fell 1.6%, marking a stark divergence as Middle East conflict typically drives investors toward traditional safe havens. US Bitcoin ETFs recorded $767 million in inflows across five consecutive trading days, suggesting institutional appetite remains strong despite geopolitical uncertainty.
This decoupling reveals a fundamental shift in Bitcoin's market dynamics. The cryptocurrency has repeatedly demonstrated resilience during geopolitical crises, rising 40% after Russia's Ukraine invasion in February 2022 and gaining 25% following Israel's strikes on Iran in June 2025. The pattern suggests Bitcoin functions less as a risk asset and more as a digital store of value during periods of monetary uncertainty.
Strategy's buying mechanism through STRC creates a powerful feedback loop. When the income-paying instrument trades at or above its $100 par value, the company issues new shares and converts that demand directly into Bitcoin purchases. This structure essentially allows retail investors to gain Bitcoin exposure while providing Strategy with continuous buying power.
The mathematics behind Strategy's accumulation are staggering. CoinDesk calculates the company needs to purchase 6,158 BTC weekly, approximately $523 million at current prices, to reach one million Bitcoin by year-end. Strategy currently holds 738,731 BTC and has acquired 64,948 BTC so far in 2026, well ahead of its historical annual pace of 128,000 BTC.
Technical analysis suggests caution despite the bullish momentum. Bitcoin formed a bear flag pattern with upside exhaustion near $72,750, aligning with the 50-day exponential moving average. The measured downside target sits around $51,000 if the pattern resolves lower. Friday's sharp reversal from $73,838 to around $71,000 following US strikes on Iran's Kharg Island demonstrated the market's sensitivity to escalation.
The Federal Reserve meeting March 17-18 presents the next major catalyst. Oil trading above $100 and the largest energy supply disruption in history complicate the central bank's inflation calculus. Any hint of renewed rate hikes would challenge crypto's five-month rally built on expectations of policy easing that continues not materializing.
